![]() And just keeping everything online requires an amazing amount of traffic. so it must stop the stream and listen for any client that wants a slice. and it has to allow each client a chance to talk. one of those is it cannot Tx or Rx to/from more than one client at a time. IoT stuff still occupies bandwidth even if the traffic is tiny. Should be OK for AirPlay though.įinally, the Expresses will not be able to "extend" the main WiFi signal, they will only be able to "join" the WiFi network. Of course, since the Expresses are only "n" WiFi capable, they will connect at much lower speeds than the main router is likely providing. :-(įor what its worth, my neighbor bought a Netgear Nighthawk router about a month ago, and had no trouble setting up his two AirPort Express devices to "join" the Nighthawk wireless network. If these didnt work, after the router upgrade, Id be VERY disappointed. Remember, the Express was designed in the 2011 timeframe, so it's not exactly latest technology. Yes, the Express is supposed to be able to handle 50 clients and in theory it might, but the network is going to be pretty much unusable at that point. Things are going to get very sluggish at about 15-20 devices if you are using an AirPort Express to provide your wireless network. Just lately, since adding 36 wireless devices, over the course of the last three years, the poor thing seems to struggle with wireless bandwidth and devices dropping off the network
